John Harris Kinzie papers, Chicago History Museum
Notebook, compiled or used by Kinzie at Prairie des Chiens (Prairie du Chien, Wisc.), dated 1 January 1826, listing Winnebago language words and English equivalents; includes a guide to pronunciation on page one and a group of songs near the end of the volume. Also, an eight-page handwritten essay by Kinzie on the "Traditions and Customs of the Wundots or Wyandots" (ca. 1829). Also, three reproductions of sketches of John Kinzie, John H. Kinzie, and Juliette Kinzie, along with a note from James Grant Wilson to Charles F. Gunther regarding these reproductions and with clipped signatures from John H. and Juliette Kinzie.
